Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival

We went to the opening night of the Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival yesterday. They showed 1 short film, "The Flowers of Cole" by director Song Leng, and 1 long film, "Kindergarten" by director Yiqing Zhang.

"The Flowers of Cole" is about the life of poverty-struck ill grandmother and her caretaker granddaughter in rural China. The movie does a great job of expressing the thoughts and emotions of the characters without using any dialogue.

"Kindergarten" makes you laugh out loud as it shows the day-to-day life of kindergarten kids in a boarding school in China. They also interview the kids on topics such as love and war.

Overall, it was great fun. If you come across these movies, watch them.
